Enron, Etc. - Why Is This Happening?
This essay was written in response to an article in Newsweek Magazine, "The Jury's In: Greed Isn't Good", by Allan Sloan. His contention: It's time to realize that the conventional wisdom that believes personal greed translates into public good is wrong. My contention: He doesn't go far enough. After a short summary of the relevant history of business practices in the United States, I explore four issues that I believe to be at the root of the problem.
